4 ( 6 1 + x 1 ) = 1 6 1 + x 1 = 4 1 x 1 = 12 1 x=12

Doug's son can complete the roofing job alone in 12 days. This is determined by finding their individual work rates and solving for the son's rate. After calculations, the son was found to complete the job at a rate of 12 1 jobs per day, leading to the conclusion that he would take 12 days to finish the job solo.
