Determine the amount of potential energy of a 5-newton book that is moved to three different shelves on a bookcase. The height of each shelf is 1.0 meter, 1.5 meters, and 2.0 meters.

Answer (3)

Gravitational Potential Energy = weight x height
for 1 meter:
GPE = 5 x 1 = 5N
for 1.5 metres:
GPE = 5 x 1.5 = 7.5N
for 2 metres:
GPE = 5 x 2 = 10N

The potential energy of a 5N book placed on shelves at heights of 1.0m, 1.5m, and 2.0m would be 5J, 7.5J, and 10J, respectively. ;

The potential energy of a 5-newton book is calculated using the formula GPE = weight x height. At 1.0 meters, it is 5 Joules; at 1.5 meters, it is 7.5 Joules; and at 2.0 meters, it is 10 Joules.
