One object has a mass of 2 kg and was lifted at a speed of 2 m/s over a distance of 10 m. The other object has a mass of 4 kg and was lifted at a speed of 3 m/s over a distance of 10 m.

Which object has more potential energy, given that gravity is [tex]9.8 \, \text{m/s}^2[/tex]?

Answer (1)

Potential Energy = mgh.
1st: m = 2kg. PE = 2* 9.8 * 10 = 196 J.
2nd m = 4 kg. PE = 4* 9.8* 10 = 392 J.
Hence the second ball, has more potential energy, because it had the greater mass.
