The sum of three different numbers is 18. If every number is a prime number, what are the three numbers?

Answer (2)

A prime number is a number that can only be divided by one and the number itself. The sum of the numbers is an even number so it must be that the two numbers are odd numbers and the other would be even. One prime number that is the number two. This will be one number. So, 18-2 = 16. We choose three as one of the odd prime number. So, 16-3 = 13 which results to an odd prime number. Thus, the numbers are 2, 3 and 13.

The three different prime numbers that sum to 18 can be either 2, 3, and 13 or 2, 5, and 11. By including the prime number 2, the requirement for an even sum can be met. The remaining two numbers are then chosen from the available odd primes that add up to 16.
