What is an animal that can seriously injure a lion without fighting?

There is no major animal predator for a lion. Animals may occasionally gang up on lions, kill a cub if they encounter one and kill weak lions or lone lionesses. But the major problem for lions is us humans. We humans have been killing animals, especially cats and particularly lions at an excessive rate. So while there are no single animal that are higher in the food chain than a lion, us humans are the ones killing them. But since you are asking what "animal" can seriously injure "a" lion, a single one, by it self on a one-on-one fight then a some animals like the African elephant or possibly a hippo can kill one. Just because of the sheer size and power of those animals.

An elephant can unintentionally injure a lion by trampling, while human-established protective measures can deter lions without direct combat. The notion of sorcery or lion-men is a cultural myth rather than a biological reality.

An animal that can seriously injure a lion without fighting would likely have to be clever, large or equipped with a defense mechanism that can cause injury indirectly. One example could be elephants, which are significantly larger and stronger. While not predators of lions and typically non-aggressive towards them, an elephant could injure or kill a lion accidentally by trampling if it feels threatened or if its young are endangered. Another method does not involve animals but rather human intervention, like the establishment of protective measures such as buffer fences made of honey-producing beehives or chili plants to deter lions from entering human territories.
Albeit non-traditional, some may consider the idea of sorcery or lion-men transforming into deadly animals and causing harm without physical confrontation, as mentioned in varied narratives and scholarly literature. However, this is more of a cultural myth or folklore rather than a biological or ecological fact.

Certain large animals, such as African elephants, hippopotamuses, and rhinoceroses, can potentially injure or kill a lion without engaging in a traditional fight due to their enormous size and strength. In specific encounters, these animals may act defensively to protect themselves or their young from perceived threats. While lions are apex predators, humans pose the most substantial threat to their survival.
