Prior to the Reformation, the Catholic Church was the sole religious power in most of Europe. There were groups of other religions in Europe as well at the time such as Jews and Muslims, but these populations were much smaller and had no where near the political control that the Catholic Church had in Europe at this time.

Before the Reformation, the Catholic Church was the dominant religious and political power in Europe, influencing all aspects of life. It had no equal standing with competing religions and faced little yet growing criticism that eventually led to the Reformation. Therefore, the correct answer is B: It was the sole religious power in Europe.
