The tissue that wood is made of is xylem. It is a very important tissue for vascular plants. Why? Because of it's basic function, which is in fact to transport water from roots to shoots and leaves. However it also has another function, which is to transports some nutrients. Also, the very word, xylem, is derived from Greek, and it means "wood", and the best-known xylem tissue is in fact wood.

Answer:
When you look at a cut section of a tree trunk, notice the different shades and types of woody tissue. The protective outer layer of the trunk is made of both living and dead cells and is called bark. The innermost core, called the heartwood, consists of dead cells, which are added continually.

Wood is made from xylem, a tissue that transports water and nutrients in plants. It consists of several types of cells, including vessels and tracheids, that are crucial for both transport and mechanical support. In trees, the newer xylem is called sapwood, while older, non-functional xylem is referred to as heartwood.
