Rene Descartes made major contributions to the scientific revolution and also in the enlightenment in the areas of mathematics and philosophy. In the area of mathematics Descartes discovered and showed that algebraic equations could be made into two-dimensional geographic shapes and also that geographic shapes could be shown through algebraic equations. This was considered analytical geometry and helped lead to the discovery of other areas of mathematics like infinitesimal calculus.
