Geologists have divided Earth's history into time units, which are largely based on what?

The units are based on history. The first three eons of Earth's history were long because in all three eons over 3.5 billion years, there is little history happening. Most of our known history is in the fourth eon, which takes place over a short period of 500 million years. Hope this helps!

Geologists divide Earth's history into time units based on significant geological and biological events, creating a framework called the Geological Time Scale. This scale consists of four main eons: Hadean, Archean, Proterozoic, and Phanerozoic, each representing major changes in Earth's development. The divisions are further detailed into eras, periods, and epochs to provide a comprehensive understanding of Earth's history over billions of years.
